Itinerary
Day 1: Gothenburg — Varberg
Our guided bike tour from Gothenburg to Varberg takes us along the picturesque west coast of Sweden and offers a varied mix of urban and rural landscapes. The start in Gothenburg begins lively, but soon we leave the city and immerse ourselves in the quiet nature. The route takes us over rolling hills, through forests and open fields, which alternate with small lakes and rivers.
After the first few kilometers we pass charming villages and rural areas where traffic is sparse and nature all the more present. As we continue, the coast comes closer and we increasingly get fresh sea air in our noses. The route runs along the coast, with wide views of the sea, which glitters in a brilliant blue on clear days. Here, sandy beaches alternate with rocky sections, and every now and then we see sailing boats in the distance.
There are also a few hills to overcome in between, but these reward us with wonderful views over the sea and the hinterland. Small country roads meander through the region, and the route occasionally takes us past historic farms and old churches.
The closer we get to Varberg, the more we feel the maritime atmosphere of the region. Varberg itself welcomes us with its charming old town and the impressive fortress that towers over the sea. The destination offers both cultural highlights and relaxation on the beach, perfect to end our tour.
On Track 2, which takes us via Sätila and circles Lake Lygnern, we leave the coastal region and delve deeper into the inland. This extended route with some short climbs offers an impressive mix of wooded sections and wide views over the picturesque Lake Lygnern, which stretches like an elongated ribbon through the landscape.
The route takes us through hilly forests, past idyllic lake landscapes and small villages that are known for their quiet, secluded atmosphere. Especially along Lake Lygnern we enjoy wonderful views of the sparkling water, lined with green forests and rolling hills. The route is a little more challenging, but offers a peaceful, nature-loving alternative to the more direct coastal route.
Day 2: Varberg — Halmstad
On our next stage from Varberg to Halmstad we delve deep into the western Swedish coastal landscape. The start in Varberg quickly takes us out of the city, and we roll leisurely along expansive fields and meadows. The view of the sea remains a faithful companion, while the coastline here seems even rougher and more natural. Small fishing villages and scattered farms line the way and give the route a special charm.
Along the way we repeatedly pass through sections characterized by wide dunes and protected nature areas. The air is salty and fresh, and in the distance you can hear the gentle sound of the waves. The route often runs close to the coast, where cliffs and idyllic beaches surprise us every now and then. This is a wonderful place to take a break and take in the vastness of the Baltic Sea.
Another highlight of this route is the alternation between flat, open sections and wooded areas that provide us with pleasant shade. Especially in the last few kilometers before we reach Halmstad, the landscape becomes hillier and offers some beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding forests.
Halmstad itself awaits us as a lively city, known for its beaches and cultural offerings. Once we have reached the city limits, there is the opportunity to cycle through the charming city center or relax on the miles of beaches in the north.
