General information

For the first time, the Global Biking Initiative is organizing a Transalp tour aimed exclusively at women who are enthusiastic about cycling. In small teams led by experienced team leaders, the participants can conquer the Alps in teams of different speed levels. No matter whether you are an experienced Transalpinisti or a Transalp newby, all women who enjoy sportive cycling can take part in this tour.

Tour highlights
- Experience Bavarian hospitality in the Olympic city of Garmisch
- Enjoy great cycle paths along the Inn and Adige rivers
- Pedal through Europes fruit garden
- Conquer challenging alpine passes
- Let yourself be enchanted by Dolce Vita at Lake Garda

On this cycing tour you will experience the magic of the mountains and cross four countries. The route from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Lake Garda is one of the 'easiest' Transalp routes, nevertheless several mountain passes have to be climbed. You can expect some long climbs and rapid descents on this tour. Look forward to alpine cuisine, Italian dolce vita and unique mountain panoramas.

The Global Biking Initiative wants to show you the most interesting places in Europe the sportive way. We are proud of our international participants, that makes it easy for everybody to make new friends from other countries. Our main goal is the continuous support of charity projects worldwide. We achieve this by engaging the participants to raise funds, that support charity projects in their home countries.

Itinerary

Day 1: Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Imst
The teams start in the morning after a short tour briefing at our hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We leave the city quickly and cycle to Mittenwald where the first mountain pass is waiting. The Buchener Saddle is just the beginning and some more challenges will follow in the next days. Rewarded with a swift descent into the Inn valley to Telfs we pedal relaxed along the river Inn on great cycling paths to our destination in Imst.
Today will be no separate track 2.
Route character: very wavy

Day 2: Imst - Nauders
From Imst we cycle all the way along the river Inn upstream. We pass the cities of Landeck and Pfunds and enter Swiss canton Engadin for quite a while. There are some parts of the route, where we have to follow the main road instead of the lovely cycle paths or minor roads we typically use. In Martina the mountain pass Norbertshöhe is waiting to be climbed with several hair pin curves. From here it is just a short distance to our destination in Nauders.
Track 2 starts the day with cycling through the Pitz valley and conquers the Pillerhöhe, before joining track 1 in Prutz.
Route character: very wavy to hilly

Day 3: Nauders - Bozen
Right behind Nauders we pass Lake Reschen with its magnificent photo scene of a sunken church tower followed by a great descent down into the Vintschgau valley with its lovely villages. We follow very well maintained, but partially narrow cycle paths along the river Adige. After passing Meran we leave the river and cycle along the mountain sides with stunning views into the valley. In Andrian we meet again the river and pedal easily to our hotel in Bolsano.
Track 2 detours more to the hilly mountain sides of the valley.
Route character: wavy (Track 1), hilly (Track 2)

Day 4: Bozen - Riva del Garda
The last day doesn't offer much elevation for us, but sensational views into the mountains area of Alto Adige. In the morning we start an excursion through the wine yards and later meet again the Adige cycle path. Halfway of the day, a stop in Trento could be a good opportunity for some sightseeing or a coffee break before continuing along the river Adige to Mori. From here it is not far to Lake Garda. Even from a distance you can see the lake glittering in front of us and the tour destination is only a short distance away.
At Mezzocorona, Track 2 turns from the Adige valley into the mountains. The route leads up to Lake Molveno and into a secluded mountain region. From Lake Tenno we let it roll and meet Lake Garda at Riva, our final tour destination.
Route character: wavy (Track 1), hilly (Track 2)

The tracks of the different stages differ in general regarding their length and the climb as well as the surface.

Track 1

Recommended for all kinds of bikes including road bikes. Only paved roads on the track, if there is a need to use some (short) gravel sections, these are possible to cycle even with road bikes. If possible the track follows cycling paths.
Shorter and less challenging than track 2.

Track 2

Recommended in particular for road bikes, but possible for all kinds of bikes. Only paved roads on the track, if there is a need to use some (short) gravel sections, these are possible to cycle even with road bikes. If possible the track follows cycling paths.
The distance is longer and more climb than on track 1.
