GBI Ladies Trainingscamp 2024

What could be better than experiencing a cycling training camp with a couple of dozen like-minded people in mild temperatures and perfect infrastructure. And since there are already enough mixed training camps in Mallorca, we have decided to offer a purely women's training camp. In addition to daily guided tours through the various regions of Mallorca, activation/yoga units directly on the beach and thematic workshops are included in the daily program. We will offer all of this directly near the airport at Platja de Can Pastilla, a complicated hotel transfer or change of hotel will not be necessary.

Bienvenidos a Mallorca!

General information

Information

Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands, a group of Spanish islands located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is the largest of the Balearic Islands and is known for its stunning natural beauty, including picturesque beaches, rugged mountains, and charming villages. Its moderate climate allows a perfect cycling experience with temperatures between 16°C and 22°C, and up to eight hours sun shine every single day!

Explore with a team of other female cyclists the enchanting beauty of Mallorca, where turquoise waters meet golden beaches, and historic towns are nestled among lush landscapes. Uncover a world of Mediterranean wonders and vibrant culture on this captivating island paradise. Combine your cycling experience with first-class workshops, covering typical cycling topics for females like menstrual cycle based training, how to fix technical problems during a ride, nutrition aspects, and much more...

We will stay during the entire period at THB El Cid****, a four stars hotel at Platja de Can Pastilla, only four km to the airport and a few minutes drive to Palma, the insland's capital. The hotel offers two outdoor swimming pools, the main pool next to the promenade with stunning sea views and a free wellness area with heated indoor pool, sauna, and Turkish bath. The beach is just in front of the hotel, only twenty meters away.

We'll typically start the day with an instructor led activation/yoga session right at the beach, followed by a maritim breakfast incl. juices, cereals, pastries, selection of cold cuts, hot food, etc.

After breakfast, two experienced instructors deliver up to two hours interactive workshops, covering topics like nutrition and training planning adapted to the menstrual cycle. The detailed workshop content will be finally agreed prior the camp in close alignment with the participants.

And then, it's time for cycling! You will have the choice of different challenging routes every day to explore the different highlights of the Island. The prepared tracks follow paved routes only and as the island is quite hilly, you can expect some climbs every day. During the ride, we'll stop for lunch (not included in the camp fee) and will return to the hotel after a couple of hours cycling later in the afternoon so you have enought time for personal regeneration before we meed for dinner.

Tour highlights:

• 5 – day exclusive ladies training camp program
• Accommodation at THB El Cid****, a four-star hotel, directly at Platja de Can Pastilla with half board (excluding drinks)
• Professional tour guiding with different female team leaders

Instructors

Instructors

The daily, interactive workshops, each lasting up to approx. 2 hours, are led by the following experienced instructors:

Christina Pfeifer
Christina (Tina) Pfeifer   Christina, a dedicated sports scientist currently pursuing her doctorate, focuses her research on the impact of the menstrual cycle on athletic performance. Her goal is to deepen our understanding of this area and enhance athletic performance, especially among women. While cycling has always been a part of her life, her genuine passion for road cycling ignited when she relocated to the German country Saarland.

In 2021, Christina initiated the establishment of a women's racing bike community in Saarbrücken as a Liv brand ambassador. For her, cycling isn't merely a sport; it's a community and a shared passion. Embracing the motto, "Sweating is better when shared," Christina is wholeheartedly committed to encouraging more women to embrace cycling, fostering shared experiences, and exploring the exhilaration of road cycling together.

Matthias Lauer
Matthias Lauer       Matthias, with a background in sports science, currently serves as the (German) Saarland state coach for young athletes in mountain bike cross-country. His journey in the world of cycling began as a mountain biker, where he found his passion for the great outdoors and the mental and physical challenges that cycling presents.

Matthias, however, didn't confine himself to a single cycling discipline. He temporarily transitioned to a road cycling team, immersing himself in the unique demands of this particular discipline on the tarmac. This diverse experience in his cycling repertoire equips him with a comprehensive understanding of the distinct requirements and intricacies of both mountain biking and road cycling.

His expertise extends across various domains, from route planning and terrain analysis to optimizing seating positions, crafting training regimens, and managing nutrition.

Charity

The Global Biking Initiative (GBI) has its roots in charitable events and therefore always strives to combine time on the bike with fundraising activities. Every GBI tour offers a unique opportunity to combine cycling and social engagement.

Generally, you sign up for a GBI tour for your home or country of residence. Each of these GBI countries has a specific nonprofit organization defined for which you can fundraise.

Your personal GBI Country Champion can explain the exact details and processes for your respective country. If you have any questions, we are of course happy to help you at any time.

Would you like to know how you can get friends, family and colleagues excited about your initiative? Here are some tried-and-true tips for attracting supporters:

Tell your story: Share your personal motivation and why you care about the nonprofit. Your passion will inspire others.

  • Use social media: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter offer an effective way to spread your message. Share regular updates about your preparations and the progress of your fundraiser.
  • Create a donation website: Online donation platforms make it easy to receive and track donations. Link to your website on your social media and emails.
  • Organize events: Plan fundraising events, such as a flea market, a charity dinner or a fundraiser. Such events bring people together and promote engagement.
  • Direct approach: Speak to friends, family and colleagues personally and explain to them how they can help. Sometimes face-to-face conversations are the most effective way to gain supporters.
  • Show gratitude: Show gratitude to your supporters, be it through personal messages, thank you cards or small gifts. People feel valued and are more likely to donate again.

We know from over fifteen years of experience that combining cycling and fundraising can be an extremely fulfilling experience that not only benefits you, but those you help too!
