General information

Tour overview

This unique cycling tour with several hundred participants from all over the world will finally take us back to Scandinavia in 2022. From the Danish capital Copenhagen we cross the southern Swedish region of Skane and ferry across the Baltic Sea. Our way leads through northern Germany and finally to the metropolitan region of Berlin, where we celebrate the end of the tour together with again hundreds of ambitious hobby cyclists.

On our tours we offer a broad range of services to provide you a very special experience. Even not well trained cyclists could manage to ride the daily distances. And if you really need to finish a stage earlier, our pickup service will bring you and your bike to the daily destination.

The mixture of different languages, nationalities and cultures creates the unique GBI spirit. And even rookies will perceive this spirit not later than the second day.

Highlights

  • Discover the Danish capital and world bicycle capital Copenhagen
  • Experience Scandinavian hospitality
  • Spend the night on a ferry on the Baltic Sea
  • Cross the land of the thousand lakes

Tour description

Currently we are working hard to design the most suitable route for you. The given routes, locations and distances show the current planning and are subject to change in the coming months. The final tracks will be available approx. 4-6 weeks prior to the tour start.

Itinerary

Day 1: Copenhagen (DK) - Elsinore (DK)
After the official starting at the GBI hotel in Copenhagen, the individual teams will first cross the Danish capital on almost perfect bicycle infrastructure. Of course, photo stops at the numerous castles and the city's landmark, the little mermaid, are a must. After we have left the city, we stay always close to the coast and within the woods along the Öresund Strait to Elsinore, our first stage destination. On the way you will always find nice restaurants for a short or longer stop.
Track 2 will turn off the regular track to the backland and we pass the kings castle of Fredensborg.
Route character: flat

Day 2: Elsinore (DK) - Höör (S)
Shortly after the start of the stage we reach the port of Elsinore and take the ferry to the Swedish city of Helsingborg. From here we head away from the coast into the southern Swedish hinterland of the Skane region. Our destination for the day in Höör is located at an idyllic lake. As mondays typically many swedish restaurants will be closed, you could count this fact in your day planning.
Track 2 detours to the north behind Helsingborg. The cities Klippan and Ljungbyhed might give you some choices for having a lunch break.
Route character: hilly

Day 3: Höör (S) - Ystad (S)
Today we are crossing southern Sweden, passing some beautiful lakes. The nutrition point is on a lake too and there is the option of jumping into the water. So don't forget your swimming gear. The last few kilometers to the port of Ystad we cycle along the Baltic Sea. In Ystad there are various possibilities for the teams to have dinner, because NO dinner is offered on the night ferry at all and even no dinner can be booked by the participants themselves on the ferry. In the evening we board the night ferry to Świnoujście, where all participants will stay overnight. It is MANDATORY for participants to be at the ferry no later than 20:00 in the evening in order to check in and collect their luggage.
Track 2 is facing a rather long stage today through beautiful, partially wooded area with numerous hills. All track 2 cyclists should plan to arrive in Ystad on time and still be able to have dinner and be at the ferry on time, keeping the long distance in mind.
Route character: hilly

Day 4: Świnoujście (PL) - Neubrandenburg/Wulkenzin (D)
In the early morning the ferry reaches the port city on the Szczecin Lagoon. After getting off the ferry, we first take a free ferry across the Świna River before we soon reach the German border. On the Usedom peninsula we pass some seaside cities with nice beaches that invite you to take a dip in the Baltic Sea. Today's nutritionpoint is at the city of Anklam, which also has numerous opportunities for a lunch break. We continue to cycle through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania area to the day's destination near Neubrandenburg.
Track 2 detours to Galenbecker See with some beautiful forests on the way. Later, there are other places to stop for refreshments in Friedland. Some of the roads in Mecklenburg are still in very bad condition, so that spring classics a la 'Paris-Roubaix' are often reminiscent here. Therefore, wide tires or even gravel bikes are certainly an advantage on these roads!

Route character: flat to hilly

Day 5: Neubrandenburg/Wulkenzin (D) - Eberswalde/Werbellinsee (D)
After having seen a lot of sea water in the first days of the tour, the following days we cross now landscapes with countless small and large lakes. From the start of the stage, we first cross Neubrandenburg and head to Germany's northernmost hilltop castle, Burg Stargard. After a stopover we continue pedalling through Mecklenburg, partly on former railway tracks and today again on old GDR streets. The town of Templin is ideal for a coffee or lunch break before we continue through forests and passing lakes to the stage destination, the former Pionierrepublik Wilhelm Pieck, with some of the Eastalgia charm. Track 2: behind Burg Stargard, track 2 begins a beautiful tour through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, during which the highest mountain in the country, the Helpter Berg at 179 m (!) has to be mastered.
Route character: hilly

Day 6: Eberswalde/Werbellinsee (D) - Storkow/Hirschluch (D)
15 km from our stage start we reach Eberswalde, one of the largest towns in this area. We cycle mostly on country roads and pass Berlin on the eastern side. There are plenty of towns, so that food shouldn't be a problem at all today. Track 2 turns towards the Oder River, which is the border to Poland here. On the German side we pedal along the river and later on a former railway track for some time on our way to the stage destination.
Route character: hilly

Day 7: Storkow/Hirschluch (D) - Berlin/Tropical Islands (D)
The last, short stage takes us first to the Scharmützelsee and on good cycle paths through the federal state of Brandenburg. Later we reach the northern Spreewald area and the participants stop over at Schlepzig to ride the last kilometers together in the peloton with music and escorted by the police to the finish. At our tour destination at Tropical Island, there will be a welcome party before the participants either go home or maybe spend the day or even the night at Tropical Island.
Track 2 only makes a small detour today.
Route character: flat

The tracks of the different stages differ in general regarding their length and the climb as well as the surface.

Track 1

Recommended for all kinds of bikes including road bikes. Only paved roads on the track. Especially in Germany the street surfaces are partially in bad condition or with sections of cobblestones. If you are able to use wider tyres or even gravel bikes, this could be a benefit.
Shorter and less challenging than track 2.

Track 2

Recommended in particular for road bikes, as the distance is longer and more climb than on track 1. Especially in Germany the street surfaces are partially in bad condition or with sections of cobblestones. If you are able to use wider tyres or even gravel bikes, this could be a benefit.

GBI for me is charity and discovery of new countries, cultures, food and drinks… So my team will aim to enjoy the tour - making the best out of the biking side, but also allocating time to visit the nicest sites and to get to know each other while enjoying the best local restaurants or cafeterias. We are fully open to diversity, so please feel free to join us and to start the event with a joint dinner the evening preceding the start. We mostly target to ride Track 1, but based on the team's ambition, might choose Track 2 once or twice during the week.

This sounds like a successful day!! Average speed is planned around 22km/h. After 2/3 of the daily stage we will have a lunch break for 45 – 60 minutes. We will stay together for the whole day, we leave no man behind. But when we drive steep mountain roads, we'll gather at the top. We always take care of each other. It would be nice to finish with te same team as we start. We will cycle on track 1 therefore race bikes are preferred.

The average speed is planned with 24 km/h, where we as team take care that we arrive together. During the ride we plan our stops together. After 2/3 of the daily stage we will have a lunch break for 45 – 60 minutes.
To have enough time during the day we start our tour after the breakfast at 8 o'clock latest.
At the end of the day we will look back together on a beautiful day.

Track 1 (23 km/h)
Languages: German, English

We are cycling with the giga power of Vodafone.
Our main focus is to have fun, cycle through stunning landscapes with an appropriate speed, that is fine for everyone and discover group dynamics. Day by day we decide whether we exceptionally switch to track 2 for the sake of a more scenic route or better beergardens on our way.

CLOSED TEAM

Please note: THIS TEAM CAN ONLY BE JOINED BY VODAFONE EMPLOYEES BY INVITATION.
